Nigerians in VEGAS!!

Last quarter was the most stressful week ever!! I knew I needed a vacation, so I planned an awesome VIP Vegas trip for me and my friends (15 of them)... We have a lot of picks posted on facebook but I just wanted to post a few that show how awesome our vacation was...

It was absolutely wonderful and epic.  I barely slept 6 hours the whole weekend... The best part of this trip was that everyone had fun, everyone let loose and were able to be themselves.  There was no fakeness and no drama.

To all the people I went to Vegas with, I love you all and lets try and make this a tradition.. MUAH!!

XOXO Oni :-)

My Hair journey !!!

Heyyyyyy Allll...

So anyone who knows me knows I love everything hair! I change my hair alotttt! I think probably every month I do something new because I get bored, (but that's another whole post). I wanted to do a post on my natural hair journey because I have gone through major transformations YO!

Sooo... I have been natural since my ninth grade high school. I had my last perm when I traveled home to Nigeria December 2005. The end of team sleek and smooth. I did not go natural for any deep, neo soul, afro-centric, black beauty reason, I actually do not remember why I stopped using relaxer. I had no idea how to transition, what natural hair meant, How to take care of my hair and all that jazz so, I wore my hair in braids ALL THE TIME! my hair was always protected. when I took my braids out I would just wash blow dry, hot comb and then braid it up again.

My junior year of High School I discovered youtube and the natural hair craze! After watching video after video of natural hair journeys I was like oooowweeee...let me rock my natural. So I finally did the big chop(which was small, because most of my relaxer broke off and I was like 2 years transition), bought some products and in like two weeks I was tired of my hair and went back to braids.

After High School I discovered weave! I was in love. Our love affair caused heat damage. Though I rarely wore my hair out I still wanted to preserve my curls.

I started doing full head weaves, pick and drop, wigs and using textures that did not cause me to use to much heat. once in awhile I would crave for the long straight look, so heat damage continued.

Like November 2011 I decided to document my hair progress, and treat my hair with some TLC. this is my hair right after a co-wash heat damage in the front :-(

A few months later after I took out my previous weave. I washed my hair in plaits so my hair is a little more stretched out.

A month or so later, I wanted to challenge myself to wear my natural. I did for a little, and then did this bun with extensions. You can see my heat damage in this pic.

My hair a little blown out and braid out pulled into a pony.

the blow out shrunken.

I decided to do a very small trim and EMBRACE MY SHRINKAGE! I love my shrinkage. I know its rare but I just loved it! wash and go's poppin!!!

Soooo! I was really enjoying my shrinkage and wash and go's. They were soooo easy. I am starting school next week and moving into a dorm :-( womp! I really wanted something simple and low maintenance because I did not want to have to explain weave, and hair and blah blah blah to my dorm mates. I wanted to stand out. I wanted to be striking! I was tired of the typical weave (dont get me wrong I will def be back to my lucious locks). I was tired of braids, they can be quite boring after a while. I think I was just tired of my hair. I cut it off 0_0!

the first day I was really insecure about my look, but I am loving it! its so easy and unique. My face stands out I feel like clothes look better on me lol (especially little party dresses)...Anywho I am not sure what will happen from here, I will let it grow out small, and continue to taper my sides.... Welp, that's my natural hair story there will be more pics of my cropped do to come :-)

SACtown

Last week, I was granted the opportunity to visit Sacramento, California... the capital of my lovely lovely state.  I went with my classmates in my health policy class.  Anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely hate hate hate politics.  Well, after my trip, I have to say that...... I still hate politics.  But, I no longer think every person in politics has a criminal and power-crazed mindset.  I met a few people who actually enjoy their job and are dedicated to using the power of government to assist people who cannot help themselves.

I'll leave you guys with some pictures I took (sorry, I didn't take much pics... my camera died!) and a video recording of Senator Kevin DeLeon.  I encourage everyone to watch.  It last less than one minute, but he has a very powerful message.  My whole class was so mesmerized by him.  I wish I recorded his whole speech.  Everyone is use to hearing from individuals who just did well and just got into the best schools and just somehow worked hard.  This guys story is complete opposite.  He did not have the best grades, but with determination and spirit, he managed to get into a school and work his way up from coming from parents who came into the country illegally to becoming Senator of California.

Anyways, enough of that... lol

I really enjoyed my trip.  I hope you guys enjoyed my pictures.  I am truly sorry for my hair mishap... I never know what to do with my hair when I have my weave out, but I refuse to perm... I love my soft, natural hair :-)

Have a good day you guys!!
