FELA!

Thursday night was an awesome night!!  Chi and I went with a bunch of our friends to go see the Fela Broadway show that was playing at the Ahmenson Theatre in Los Angeles.  We have been planning and debating about when we should go see this play since December!! It was even seeeming like we probably were just going to skip it and let this play pass us by.  Just as I started to lose interest in going to see this play, a friend of mines went on a facebook rant about how awesomely amazing the play was and how no one should miss it... So knowing myself, I just had to see what all the fuss was about....

So on Thursday, Chi, myself, and about ten other friends went to check out the show.  When we entered the area to be seated, there had to be like hundreds of people there.  The place was packed!!  That initated my excitement and I was ready to be entertained.

Was I entertained??? HELL TO-THE-MOTHERLOVING YESSSSS!!!!!!  The play was engaging the audience.  They have you getting out of your seat and dancing and I believe everyone had a good time.  The dancing was killer.  The acting was wonderful.  The humor was not the least bit corny.  I was very impressed and I have no complaints about the show.  My boyfriend saw the play in Lagos, Nigeria and he said that their performance here in Los Angeles was 100x better than in Lagos.  I was shocked!!

I will say this.  If you know the history of Fela, you probably will be skeptical of this show.  You would think that this play is suppose to portray the life of Fela Kuti, but it only touches the surface of it.  I feel their main purpose of the show was just to entertain and portray him in a way better light than I know him to be.  Anyhow, their purpose is to entertain, and their purpose was very much accomplished.

Their last show in Los Angeles was last night and I am not sure what city they are headed for next.  If they do come to a city near you, I highly suggest to go buy a ticket and see it.  It is absolutely an awesome show!!!
